3 Tips to Increase Backlinks to Your Website: Guest Contributor, Noah Geltzer

My name is Noah Geltzer and I am from Nashville, Tennessee. I am currently a senior Marketing major at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where I will graduate in May. For the past 6 months I interned with a digital marketing agency in Knoxville where I learned a lot about digital marketing and search engine optimization (SEO). It was at that agency where I learned about backlinks and other terminology and applications that help with SEO. During my time there, I was able to look up and learn information about digital marketing which led me to research what backlinks were and why it’s important for businesses. This topic interested me because it is one way that can help spread the word and work of a company. Through researching this topic I was able to find information that I believe is useful and important for businesses that I thought is worth sharing.

What is a backlink? Backlinks are links that are located on another website that when a user clicks on it, are directed to a page on your website. Increasing the amount of backlinks can only help to increase exposure to your company.

I first met Andrew Exler in 2014 through a Jewish youth group called BBYO in Nashville. I was a sophomore in high school when Andrew was hired as the Associate Regional Director for Cotton States Region BBYO. I remember when I first met him because when he introduced himself, he said he was from Pittsburgh and the only thing I could think of was that he must be a Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins fan. Sure enough I was right. I am a big Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators fan and although we don’t necessarily love the same teams, we built a great mentor/mentee relationship. Andrew and I always talked about sports and had friendly banter about each of our teams. When he moved to Pittsburgh, PA to become the Regional Director for Keystone Mountain Region BBYO we made sure to keep in touch and still do to this day.

After graduation, my goal is to find a marketing position that handles either brand management, market research, or digital marketing. I have taken numerous marketing classes and held a digital marketing internship that has helped me gain a lot of knowledge. I would love to be able to use the knowledge I have learned from my classes and internship and apply it to my job.

Although this blog topic has not benefited me personally, I know how it benefits the clients for the agency I interned with. Increasing backlinks helps the agency’s clients increase their SEO rank and appear higher up on Google. It is important to understand that this won’t happen overnight. It takes time for businesses to increase their backlinks but it is something that is very important and helpful.

Testimonials

One way to increase backlinks to your site is by writing reviews on websites that your business uses. For instance, if your company uses websites that requires a monthly subscription fee, leave a review on their site and be sure to link your companies name on it. Making a list of all of the businesses your company uses is a great start to this process.

Contact Bloggers/Influencers

Bloggers & influencers can help spread the word about your company. Reach out to bloggers and get them to write about your company.  When they write about you they will provide a link for readers to click that will take them to your website. It’s a great way to increase your exposure and build a relationship with others who have a great network.

Get Interviewed

Reach out to someone who is looking to do a report about your business or industry. This requires a little more research to find someone looking for an interview but is worth it in the end. Once you have contacted someone and done the interview, the information they put in their article will be sure to have your website linked to it. Utilize the various social media platforms to find the best fit for an interview or conversation opportunity.
