3 Things Small Businesses Can Do RIGHT NOW To Improve Social Media

There is no time better than the present. As we continue to evolve as a global community living through the COVID-19 pandemic, we are preparing to learn what “life 2.0” is going to be. What is our “new normal” going to be? Are in-person offices a thing of the past? Are handshakes and high-fives no more?

In the midst of everything we are experiencing personally, it is imperative to consider how you will continue to grow professionally amidst all of this change.

As the owner of a social media marketing consulting business, I have been closely monitoring many social media platforms to see how businesses are evolving with the change. Which businesses are making the necessary changes to provide the best content & engagement possible to drive engagement & boost sales? Which businesses haven’t posted since March 2020? I’m seeing it all.

Social media doesn’t need to be intimidating. There are a few simple things to focus on to improve your social media RIGHT NOW!

In partnership with Growth10 (G10), I am happy to present my next collaboration with Co-Founder, Tom Healy, discussing 3 things small businesses can do today to improve social media. Growth10 is the #1 community for entrepreneurs and as their mission states, Growth10 wants to help entrepreneurs grow faster and have a greater impact on the world. As part of your G10 membership, you will be providing a needs-based scholarship for an entrepreneur to be in the G10 Community. I am a proud member & contributor of the Growth10 community and I invite you to test it out with a 7-day free trial! You won’t regret it!

Here’s what you need to do:

Make it a priority

Don’t make this more complicated than it needs to be. In order to do social media well, it needs to be a priority. This does NOT mean you need to devote countless hours, but you need to strategize. Don’t just settle for “good”. BE GREAT! Consider who is managing your accounts. You want the right person to be running these accounts, so make sure they are bought-in to your business, values and know how to represent you. Just because your youngest employee has 2,000 followers on their personal account DOES NOT MEAN they can effectively manage & grow the account for a business.

Consider outsourcing your social media. This method may in the end save you time, money & drive new business. Want to learn more on how I may be able to assist? Contact me today for a free consultation!

Strategize

At the most basic level, there are two quick strategies you could implement today to improve your social media.

First, set goals. This doesn’t necessarily mean you are talking about how many followers you want to get (you can have 30,000 followers but if they aren’t engaging and buying your product, it means nothing), but you need to know what your goals are. Do you want more engagement? Do you want to spread brand awareness? Do you want to drive sales or meet new prospects? Figure out some areas you want to be strong in and track it.

Next, utilize a social media posting calendar. There are many templates that you could find online. Having a calendar will not only help you stay organized, but it provides opportunities to lead you to a social media posting tool to that will automatically post for you. This strategy will surely save plenty of time!

CHOOSE THE RIGHT PLATFORMS!

Though everyone has their own preferences, I recommended exploring Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter to start. You don’t need to get on all four at once, but these are the platforms that will provide you some great resources to get growing. As time goes on you could consider other great platforms like Youtube, Pinterest, Tik Tok, Snapchat, etc.

My #1 piece of advice when choosing your platforms: If you cannot be GREAT, don’t be on that platform. What does “great” mean?

Being great means that you are actively posting, engaging with your community and providing value. You need to be consistent on these platforms and make sure you are posting at least a few times a week. If you are going more than 7-10 days without a post, you shouldn’t be on the platform. I’ll learn everything about your business, including your budget, and I’ll work around what you are most comfortable with.

These three strategies are very easy to implement. No matter how small or niche your business is, I can promise you that enhancing your social media business will only benefit you. Want to learn more? Contact me today!
